Kapil Sharma was called fat by production house making Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa; what he did next changed his life

Kapil Sharma has been ruling the TV screen for a long while now with his own standup comedy show. The comedian got talking about the inception of his show during a recent episode of Fever FM's Bounce Back Bharat Festival and revealed how he was originally approached by the channel to host Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa and not his own comedy show which he pitched to them during the discussion.

Kapil told RJ Nishant, “This wasn't a show actually. I went to the Colors office, they had called me over, asking if I could host a show. I asked them which one? They said Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa. I asked them what will I be required to do? They said you and Maniesh Paul will host it.”

“I said fine and they told me to meet a production house called BBC. I went to meet them and after looking at me, she said, ‘Aap bahut mote hain. Aap thoda wazan kamm karo (You are very fat. Lose some weight).' I told the channel about what she told me, said, 'What is all this?' But the channel called her, told her ‘the guy is good, let's get him onboard as host, he'll lose the weight later,’” he added.

The comedian whose weekly special The Kapil Sharma Show has never failed to make it to the TRP charts further added, “So, I asked them, 'Why don't you think about making a comedy show?”. The comedian was asked to ready a pitch in two days for which he played at his strengths and presented his idea for his comedy show. The rest they say is history.

Kapil’s show was originally planned to run for just 25 episodes but has now completed over 500 episodes since its inception. The show is now produced by Salman Khan and airs on Sony TV.
