Mere Dad Ki Dulhan Actor Varun Badola Laments The State Of Content On TV Feels Detergent Ads Are At Times Better To Watch

Mere Dad Ki Dulhan actor Varun Badola laments the state TV content as it exists today and feels that if the platform had more meaning content he could have done much better work. The actor is returning to the small screen after his show Mere Angne Mein went off the air in 2017 and feels that TV is more economics driven than content and feels that is the reason why most of the so-called content-driven shows fail to strike a chord with the audiences.

Varun in the past has been a part of the most successful and well-meaning TV soaps in the past including 'Astitva — Ek Prem Kahani’ and 'Des Main Nikala Hoga Chand' and says that the bigwigs of TV say that the audiences for daily soaps haven’t changed but feels that they doubt the intelligence of the viewers. Speaking to Bombay Times about his concerns the actor said, “Most of our television shows are not content-driven because the makers have to keep in mind the market, saleability factor and business. For example, if your 9 pm show is being sponsored by a detergent brand, it sometimes feels like the commercial of the detergent is better than the show!”

Talking about taking risks of his shows Varun said that while he didn’t mind aging on shows he left Astitva when it took a 17 years leap because his role wouldn’t look convincing. He added that for his new show he had to gain 12 kilos.

The actor is returning with Mere Dad Ki Dulhan beacuse he feels that the concept of the show resonates with the kind of show he would like to do. The show sheds light on the relationship of a father and daughter and also stars actress Shweta Tiwari.
