Nia Sharma says she's hated for how she looks and carries herself: 'Audience is accustomed to seeing us in nice Indian wear'

Nia Sharma is one of the most sought-after actresses in the television industry. In a rather self-aware conversation, Nia spoke about her following on Instagram, where she has an impressive 6.6 million followers, and revealed if it affects the kind of offers that come her way.

Satisfied with her career, Nia was asked during an interview with Sidharth Kannan if she’d still get the kind of work she does if she losses her followers on Instagram. The actress said, “Yes, mere liye woh problem hai hi nahi (that is not a problem for me). I have that following because of the shows that I have done. I am still adored and loved for the character I played in Ek Hazaroon Mein Meri Behna Hai and not for the Nia Sharma I am today. People hate me for how I look, or how I carry myself, I know. Nia is being hated to another level but that’s all right. I am loved for Roshini (Jamai Raja), I am loved for Manvi (Ek Hazarron Mein) so I know our Indian audience is very accustomed to seeing us in those little nice Punjabi suits and nice Indian wear and a girl should be the bahu of the house. This is what attracts them and I respect that."

“Instagram mera agar kal delete ho jata hai toh bhi mere kaam pe koi farak nahi padega. Instagram baad mein aaya hai mera kaam mujhe pehle mil gaya hai, that’s how I have that kind of following. (If my Instagram gets deleted tomorrow even then it won’t make a difference to me. Instagram came later I got work first, that’s how I earned that kind of following).”

Nia was last seen the music video ‘Do ghoont’ and also starred in the second season of Jamai Raja which was released digitally this year. Her last outing on TV was the show Naagin 4 which started in 2019 and wrapped up in 2020.
