Ronit Roy Has Been Selling His Things To Support 100 Families, Opens Up About His Initial Years Of Struggle

Ronit Roy is undoubtedly a popular name in both TV and the film industry. He has worked for almost three decades now, and has been associated with some of the best and most popular films and TV shows. But like everyone else, he has also had his days of struggling. In a recent interview, he not just opened up about his present situation where he has not made money since January, but has also talked about his initial days where he would have to go to his mother’s house to feed himself despite a silver jubilee film.

Talking to TOI, Ronit Roy opened up about the controversial 90 days payment rule that many TV stars are protesting about in the current situation, especially after two very young actors ended their lives due to financial crisis. He said that he has not made money since January and his business, which was doing well, has stopped since March due to the present pandemic. However, he is still continuing to support the 100 families that he is responsible for. He added, “Whatever I have, I am selling things to support about 100 families that I am responsible for. I am not a very rich man, but I am doing it.” His point is that the production houses, that have lavish offices should clear the money they owe to the actors as soon as possible.

He also opened up about his days as a struggler in the industry. He said, “My first film was released in 1992 Jaan Tere Naam which was a blockbuster. It was a silver jubilee and silver jubilee of that day means a Rs 100 crore movie of today. My debut film was of that level. 1992 it released and for the next six months, I did not receive a single call. Then I got all kinds of trashy work which I did for three years and around 96 all the work dried up. For four years I was sitting at home. I had a small car, but I had no money for petrol. I would walk up to my mother's house for a meal as I did not have money even after being in a silver jubilee film. I did not kill myself. I am not passing judgement on anybody. Everyone at some point in their life faces financial crisis. I feel if you are facing a financial crisis then killing yourself is not a solution. I don't see any sense in taking your life because that can't be a solution.”

Well, many who are begging for help in the TV industry right now are the sole bread earners in their family and are responsible even for their parents. We hope that the situation gets better as soon as possible.
