Director: Sriram Raghavan
Let me just start off by saying that I do not know how to express the delight I felt after seeing Andhadhun today. The film is undoubtedly one of the most brilliant and entertaining thrillers ever made in Bollywood. The film is so good that I find words to fall short to describe this two and a half hour experience.
To begin with, Andhadhun is a masterly crafted story. It has its share of twists and turns and in most of them, you can actually guess what might be happening next. But the best part about this film is even though you might correctly guess the next sequence, it doesn’t make the surprise even a bit dull. In fact, the film never becomes predictable and with every twist, you will be at the edge of your seat. Andhadhun might not be one of the best thrillers that way, but this is one of the funny and entertaining thrillers you will see.
While the credit would definitely go to Sriram Raghavan for this gem, you cannot overlook the performances that helped to turn the director’s vision into a reality. And well, Ayushmann Khurrana wins this one, hands down. We might be raving a lot about Rajkummar Rao and Vicky Kaushal, who are clearly competing against each other for the best actor trophy this year, but well, Ayushmann is also making his way. His part was challenging and boy, he perfectly brings Akash to life. There is not a moment where he slips or fails.
And talking about performance, it is not surprising that Tabu would prove to be the dark horse. She displays her range and proves her mettle. She is capable of anything, and she proves that once again with this film. Radhika Apte had limited screen time and less work to do in this film, but she is great in each one of them. Anil Dhawan, Ashwini Kalsekar and Manav Vij also deliver their parts earnestly and Ashwini’s performance is especially laudable as a wife who loves her husband to bits!
Another great part of the film is its music. Both the background score and the music infuse life to the story. These were important in creating the suspense surrounding the events and well, these do justice!
The movie has been so beautifully executed that the entire theatre burst out in laughter every now and then. People had started clapping even during the interval. Two and a half hours is a long time and every film that long runs into the risk of getting boring or just lagging in a few parts. Not Andhadhun. The film maintains pace all throughout and the ending is just the cherry on the cake.
Watch this film because this is one entertainer we deserve and we had been waiting for long. Watch it because Andhadhun should not be missed!
