Rajnikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer Robot 2.0 has replaced Baahubali 2 as the costliest Indian film.

It goes without saying that Telugu film ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ and Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil movie ‘Robot 2.0’ are two of the most anticipated films scheduled for release next year. The former one is expected to answer why Kattappa killed Baahubali in April and the latter might hit theatres somewhere around the grand festival of Diwali. While we have heard that the climax scene of the second iteration of the Bahubali series is the costliest one till date, the latest we hear is that ‘2.0’ is the most expensive film ever made in India.

The S. Shankar directorial is made at a whopping amount of Rs. 350 crore. The title of being the most expensive film was earlier owned by ‘Baahubali 2’, which is helmed by S.S. Rajamouli and made on a budget of Rs. 250 crore.

Amul Mohan, who is a trade analyst, was quoted as saying, “I have heard that the budget of 2.0 is Rs 350 crore. It’s a big statement of intent from the South industry. We, in Mumbai, are struggling to make movies at a fraction of that amount. But the budget of 2.0 makes sense as the first film was a worldwide success. And when Rajinikanth teams up with Akshay Kumar, you always know it is going to be a bigger player. But having said that, 2.0 is not a big budget film by Hollywood standards. Rs 350 crore, when compared to a Hollywood film, is nothing, given today’s currency exchange rate. But if anybody can pull it off here, it’s Shankar."

Akshaye Rathi, a trade analyst and exhibitor, also says, “2.0 will be counted as among the most expensive films in India because of its super expensive VFX, robots and all kinds of creatures. Baahubali 2’s landing cost will be Rs 175-180 crore (approx)”. On a related note, ‘Bahubali: The Conclusion’ stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Tamannah in the lead roles. ‘2.0’ features Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson, and A.R. Rahman has rendered the music for the film.
