Actress Anjali Rao, who gained her share of recognition with Gautham Menon’s Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, is all set to feature in debutant director Ashok’s Peechankai.  Anjali was also critically acclaimed for her performance in movies like Soodhu Kavvum, Pizza 2, and Vanmaham. She will next be seen in award-winning film Sila Samayangalil, helmed by Priyadarshan.

Recently, while chatting to a leading daily, the 29-year-old actress made a public confession that she never wanted to be a heroine, she said, “I did not come to the industry to be a quintessential heroine; I wanted to do performance-oriented roles. Even if I am given one scene which makes or breaks the story, I will definitely do it. Initially it was difficult, as I do not come from a filmy background nor am I from an acting school. I started making short films to understand the aesthetics of filmmaking.”

In Peechankai, the actress will be seen playing the role of Abirami, who runs a telephone booth. Though her character is limited, but it is crucial to the story. The actress revealed that before Peechankai, her cinematic timeline was inundated with offers, but she rejected all those projects because the roles were more glamour-centric and less performance-centric.
