Baahubali’s Success Inspires Director S.P. Jananathan

Director S.P. Jananathan feels that Baahubali has inspired and encouraged him to make history based films. Known for his work in ‘Peranmai’, ‘Iyarkai’ and ‘E’, the writer-producer has been making films on modern-day subjects with powerful content. But, after the success of Baahubali, he feels that there is a strong market for historical movies in Tamil Nadu.

Jananathan’s latest film ‘Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai’ received largely positive reviews. It showed the complex issue of death penalty and privatization in an entertaining yet engaging way. The movie was directed and written by Jananathan and starred Arya, Vijay Sethupathi, Karthika Nair and Shaam.

For his next project, the director will focus on world civilization through the viewpoint of Tamils. Being a romantic story based in 9th century AD, the movie will showcase the architecture, sculpture, international trade, painting, literature and science, as well as the warfare. It will revolve around the ancient Tamil era.
