Balaji Tharaneetharan Calls Vijay Sethupati ‘Easiest Actor’

Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom fame director Balaji Tharaneetharan is a sensation in Tamil cinema. With his last directorial - Oru Pakka Kathai, the director had a bad taste of censor board but this could not shatter his spirits. Balaji is back with his next, titled Seethakathi, which features Vijay Sethupati in the lead. And, the director is all praises for him.

Balaji told TOI, "As an actor and as a person, he has grown a lot. Vijay Sethupathi is the easiest actor to work with. He comes on time, dedicated and puts the director at ease." While talking about zeroing in on Vijay Sethupati, the director said, "For this role of a 75-year-old man, I wanted an actor who people are familiar with. I had Amitabh Bachchan sir in mind. The fact that he hadn't done a Tamil film yet also played on my mind. But it didn't work out and the process took a long time. Then Vijay Sethupati heard the script and wanted to be a part of it. But at that time I wasn't convinced if he could pull off the 75-year-old character."

Notably, Vijay has played older characters earlier also in Soodhu Kavvum and Orange Mittai. And, the actor has proved his versatility with every challenging role given to him. Balaji seemed to have shared an easy space with Vijay Sethupati during the shoot.

Further, the director shared that the actor’s transformation used to take a lot of time and a prosthetic team of Oscar winner Kevin Haney was onboard for this task. Balaji recollected, "It takes about five hours to put the makeup. Vijay was the first one to come and the last person to leave the set as removing the makeup took about one-and-a-half hours. He made it look easy though."

Desimartini wishes the team of Seethakathi all the luck!
