The 50-year-old actor said about Ratnam, "Mani sir likes me and my brand of humour very much, even though I haven't acted in any of his films barring Alaipayuthey. He had once asked me when I was going to direct films. When I replied that I don't know anything about direction, he jokingly shot back, 'Even I don't know'. He liked the idea that I was doing a proper serious role. He had a Mumbai trip scheduled for that day, but has cancelled it to attend the audio function."

The actor also talked about Rahman who readily agreed to attend the event managing other previous commitments, "Rahman was supposed to attend the 10th lakh sapling planting function I had organized earlier, but got held up in a recording. So, he told me then that he owed me one in the future. I had only shot a mail to him about this audio launch, but he replied saying he will definitely come this time, even though he will be landing in the city only the previous night.”
