Court Restrains Studio From Using The Word ‘Mersal’

Superstar Vijay will soon be seen on the big screen in his upcoming flick titled ‘Mersal’. The movie is supposed to hit the screens next month but it looks like Thenandal Studios Limited is facing some problems regarding the use of the title. A petition was filed against the use of the word ‘Mersal’ and the Madras high court has restrained the studio from using that word.

The petition was filed by A. Rajendran of Film Factori of Villavakkam, who claims that he had initially titled and registered a story, ‘Mersalaitan’, with the Tamil Nadu Film Writers’ Association. Rajendran also obtained a no objection certificate from Green Apple Pictures’ Mohammed Sadiq and thus the title ‘Mersalaitan’ and ‘Naan Mersalaitan’ had been registered under his name.

When he heard that another film with the same title existed, he was shocked. He had initially lodged complaints with the Councils but had to file the present petition when his complaints went unheard. On the other hand, Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ has been in development for quite some time now and stars three lead actresses, Kajal Aggarwal , Samantha and Nithya Menen.
