Gururaja’s Next Based On Vikarm And Betal

Director Gururaja is prepping for his upcoming film titled Uppu Puli Kaaram which is based on the popular folklore Vikram and Betal. However, this is not the first time that a movie is being made on Vikram and Betal. The recently released Vikram Vedha, directed by Pushkar and Gayathri, was also based on the similar concept.

The story of Uppu Puli Kaaram revolves when Betal comes to Earth and meets King Vikramaditya. The proceedings are told in a simple manner. Malayalam comedy actor Pakru, who holds Guinness Record of being the shortest actor to play a character in a full-length movie, has been signed in to play Betal. Jayanth, son of veteran actor Bhanuchander, will play the lead, while actress Kaushika, a lookalike of actress Ranjitha, has been roped in to pair opposite him.

Talking about the film, the director said, “The folk tales of Vedhalam (Betal) belong to a period when kings were ruling. My story revolves around the theme of Vedhalam appearing in the current scenario and riddling Vikramadhithya — it is a fictional attempt.” Bengali actress Poulami makes her debut in Kollywood with the film. She will play one of the heroines.
