I Feel That Some Of His Movies Are A Bit Over-the-top: Aishwarya R. Dhanush About Her Father Rajinikanth

Film director and daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, Aishwarya R. Dhanush, says that she feels her father goes over-the-top in some of his movies. Aishwarya has penned her autobiography titled ‘Standing On An Apple Box’ and at the launch of her debut book recently, she said that she is one of Rajinikanth’s biggest critics. The launch event was also graced by the presence of Amitabh Bachchan, whose daughter Shweta Bachchan has penned the foreword.

“I am one of his biggest critics. I feel that some of his movies are a bit over-the-top”, Aishwarya was quoted as saying during the event. Touching upon his father’s equation with husband and actor Dhanush, Aishwarya stated, “Dhanush has been a fan of my father since his childhood. They share mutual respect for each other. Also, the fact that Dhanush made it big on his own and not because he is someone's son-in-law is something my father deeply admires”.

Talking about the unique title, Aishwarya said, “Apple box is a film industry term. I wanted to be a filmmaker since the very beginning, and when I was young, I stood on the apple box to reach the camera lens”. ‘Standing On An Apple Box’ is a semi-fictional memoir of the good, bad and ugly of being the daughter of the legendary actor, wife of one of the most celebrated actors and mother of two children. The book reflects the juggling responsibilities of a woman; in Aishwarya’s case, under the watchful gaze of cameras and celebrity-watchers.
