‘Kabali’ Will Not Be Like ‘Baasha’: Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth went candid at the 90th birthday celebration of politician R.M. Veerappan. While talking about his association with the producer at the function, Thalaivar addressed ‘Baasha’ (1995) as one of the films that cannot be recreated. The event was organized at Raniseethai hall in Chennai.

The superstar went on a nostalgic mode and said, “In my earlier days, there was a challenge thrown at me if I could watch a FDFS of my Vaadhyaar MGR's film. ‘Naan Aanaiyittal’ produced by ‘R.M. Veerappan’ had released then. There were different ranges in ticket rates, starting from 65 paise, Rs 1.10 and Rs 2.10 balcony. 65 paise was only my range. I stood in the queue early in the morning, got the ticket after lots of toil and saw the film. Later, after I became a star, I acted in RMV sir's production, ‘Raanuva Veeran’. ‘Baasha’ was also RMV sir's production”.

He further added, “Now I am working in ‘Kabali’ and people ask me if ‘Kabali’ would be like ‘Baasha’. For all those who ask this question, I tell this, ‘Kabali’ will not be like ‘Baasha’. Please don’t expect that. There is no chance to make such a film again. Such films can be made by people like RM Veerappan only. I am not saying this because I am attending this function. He is the person who is responsible for the massive success of ‘Baasha’. The more I moved with RMV, my respects towards him keep rising”.
