Karthik Raaja All Set To Stage Play

Chennai-based renowned music composer Karthik Raaja is all prepared to stage a play next month. The play is titled Pattanathil Bhootham and is based on three guys and the magic lamp. The play is made to amuse children and will have Nasser (Karthik’s son), Prasanna, Nandini Ravindran, as well as singers like Rahul Nambiar, Chinmayi and Harish.

Giving details about making of the play, Karthik said, "This will be a children's play and rehearsals are already on. This is the second production under our banner, Absolute Magic. We debuted last year with dad's (Ilayaraja) show in Madurai. We wanted to do something new this year, and that is when the thought of writing a play came about... We will be premiering this play on September 16 at Music Academy, followed by shows on September 18, 19 and 20."

The Sagaptham music composer added, “I've always been drawn to theatre and wanted to do something that perhaps I would have wanted to watch on stage when I was a child. I've taken inspiration from Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. It is a Tamil comedy about three guys and how do they get to the lamp, and the magic that happens. It will be more of a comedy — something children would love to see. I have written the story, and Pa Vijay has penned the dialogues. It will have sound by Dolby, which is a first for a live show.... We are also planning for a live orchestra. But we are working on a few technical issues. It should be finalized soon”.
