    Kollywood: No Diwali Release This Year?

    Tamil Film Producers Association has decided, mutually with producers, to halt the release of Tamil films, in the last week of October. This implies that no Tamil film will release this Diwali. The decision has been taken in order to sort all the problems that Kollywood film industry is facing currently. Reportedly, a grand meeting will be conducted with several associations of the film industry and various issues, such as exorbitant salary charged by actors, increase in advertisement costs, availability of theatres etc. will be discussed and sorted. The issue that almost led to the halt of Paayum Puli release is also likely to be discussed in the meeting.

    As per the statement from TFPA, “From October 23rd we are implementing plans which will revive the Tamil film industry. Producers Council will go on strike since that date and there won’t be any film releases. There will be no Diwali releases this year. The strike decision has been taken only after discussing with the all associations. They are all supporting it”.

    Since, Diwali is one of the biggest festivals, the producers aim for the release of their films around this time. Now, that the release of Tamil films has been stalled during the festive season, many film’s business is expected to be affected. Tamil films, which were subject to release this Diwali include Kamal Haasan starrer Thoongavanam, Ajith starrer yet-to-be titled his 56th film and Suriya starrer 24.
