Cinematographer Theni Eswar said, "In addition to regional films from around the country, the festival also had films from countries like Iran and Romania. Around 250 films from around the world were screened at this event, and I'm glad that our film was selected for its cinematography from among those". The man was not present to receive award himself, however director Leninbharathi collected for him.

Sharing his experience on Merku Thodarchi Malai, elated Eswar revealed, “You could call this alternative cinema. Most of the artistes who have acted are daily wage workers from the region — the border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. To make them feel less conscious about the camera, we decided to do away with artificial lights, and have shot the film almost entirely using natural light". The team had to trek all the way up to mountain top with their equipment to shoot for the first week of filming. The movie is expected to be released by the end of the current year.
