    Prominent Kannada filmmaker D. Rajendra Babu passes away at 62

    Veteran filmmaker and script writer from the Kannada film industry, D. Rajendra Babu, breathed his last on Sunday, November 3. He succumbed to cardiac arrest at the age of 62. He is survived by his actress-wife Sumithra and two daughters, Umashankari and Nakshathra.

    Since quite some time the filmmaker was reportedly suffering from low blood pressure and after he complained of uneasiness on Sunday he was rushed to MS Ramaiah Hospital. Before he could reach the hospital he died on his way. In the early 80’s the director debuted withJiddu starring ‘Tiger' Prabhakar and Jaimala. Then he continued with his filmmaking career with 50 films which also included Rekthabhishekham (Malayalam) and Pyar Karke Dekho (Hindi).His elder daughter had a successful filmy career in the Tamil film industry with the name Uma but later she gave up acting. Babu recently wrapped up shootingKuchiku Kuchiku which also marks the debut for his younger daughter Nakshathra.

    Recently the filmmaker also finished two schedules of his last movie Aryan which features Shivrajkumar and Ramya. The shooting was supposed to resume on Saturday. Shivrajkumar said, "Babu called me on Saturday night and wished me and my family a happy Deepavali. When I heard he is no more on Sunday morning, I was shocked.” Actor-turned-MP Ramya recalled, “We used to enjoy working with Mr. Babu. He was the most affectionate person.” In his three-decade long career Rajendra Babu has worked with actors like Ravichandran, Vishnuvardhan, Upendra, Ambareesh, Shivarajkumar, Puneeth, Sithara, Mahalakshmi, Sonali Bendre, Lakshmi, Khushboo and Malashree. May D. Rajendra Babu’s soul rest in peace.
