Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ To Lock Horns With ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ In The Battle Of The Sequels

Rajinikanth stormed the box offices in 2010 with blockbuster film ‘Enthiran’. It became the top-earning Indian film of the year by beating the likes of Shahrukh Khan’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’. The fans were delighted when director S. Shankar revealed that he is ready to start the sequel of the film.

The sequel, titled ‘2.0’, has a mega budget of Rs. 350 crore and it is being tipped to be a visual treat with some mind-blowing VFX. The director roped in Hollywood stunt coordinator Aaron Crippen and Kenny Bates, who have choreographed stunts in blockbusters like ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Transformers’ and many more. He also brought Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on board to play the lead antagonist in the flick. He is leaving no stone unturned to make the science fiction film a mega blockbuster.

But the director faces a major hurdle in his path to glory. ‘2.0’ will hit the screens on April 14, 2017 and it will directly clash with ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’, the sequel of magnum opus ‘Baahubali’ which defeated ‘Enthiran’ to become the top-grossing south Indian film of all time. The director of the historical fiction film S.S. Rajamouli has already promised the sequel to be greater than the first instalment and his team has received a major boost after ‘Baahubali’ bagged the Best Film award at the National Film Awards.

Despite these facts, Shankar will be game for the clash. He has appointed best people for every role and will be looking to take on Rajamouli on April 14 next year. A source close to the unit of ‘2.0’ revealed that it is unlikely that one of the films will be postponed. He said, “The mother language of Baahubali is Telugu while Robot is in Tamil. The clash will not be headlong. And it’s a long weekend, beginning April 14. Long enough to accommodate two big films”. It will be a fierce battle of the sequels on April 14, 2017.
