Santhosh Jayakumar Talks About Getting An ‘A’ Certificate

Santhosh Jayakumar made his debut in direction with Kollywood adult comedy-drama film Hara Hara Mahadevaki which released last year. The filmmaker’s second outing, Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu (IAMK), has also been censored and he has completed shooting for his third film. He is now working on its post-production.

After the post-production of his third film, the filmmaker will start with his next film. In a recent media interaction, he spoke about adult movies, censorship and many other things. When asked what he learnt in the last few years in the industry, he said, “Actually, many. In my first film, there was a lag in the first 20 minutes, and I learnt this from the various comments on social media. So, in my next film, I made sure the entertainment factor is there from the beginning. Also, I have now started visualising what fits in the footage and what doesn’t on the spot instead of at the edit table”.

He further added, “I’ve also learnt that not everyone understands the concept of censor certificates. If a film gets an ‘A’ certificate, people don’t analyse why the certificate has been given — is it because of content or violence or any other reason. Some understand, and others just crib. So, I’ve learnt to take the positives and move on”.
