Sathya Introduces African Musical Flavour To Kollywood

Music composer Sathya was called recently for his background score. The composer did a great work for the Mayilu song in the recently-released horror film Bayama Irukku. He recently revealed the challenges he had to go through for composing music with live instruments and bringing ‘Trap music’ to the Kollywood industry, which is a popular genre in West Africa.

The composer has brought this for the first time and has used it for his new film Theedhum Nandrum.  He has incorporated the ‘Trap’ genre. Speaking about the same the composer said, “Theedhum…is a dark film directed by Rasu Ranjith of Nalaya Iyakkunar fame. It has several elements like robbery, romance and sentiment and gives the potential to try out a new genre for re-recording. That’s when the idea of using ‘Trap’ music came up. African singers in independent albums mostly use this, and I have composed a song with a Trap theme, which is new to Kollywood”.

He even said that using live instruments over techno music will make the songs and the sequences soulful. He said, “For most of my songs, I prefer using artistes who play live instruments. You will never get the brilliance of using traditional instruments in any other form”. He is also going to work in another untitled film directed by Ezhumalai, where he plans to introduce a new singer. The flick will be a romantic thriller which has a lot of scope for music.
