Poo Sivaprakasam’s 13-minute short film titled ‘Irumal Thaththaa’ has now been recognized internationally. The new director came up with the idea for the short film offhand and had no idea that it would become so big. The film has already been screened at a film festival in Mumbai as well as at an annual event to commemorate filmmaker Balu Mahendra in Chennai.

This September, the short film will be screened at Singapore Tamil Short Film Festival. Talking about the project, Siva shared, “The plight of a grandad who suffers from chronic cough, and who later succumbs to cancer, is the plot I developed based on my own grandad's life”. He added, “My grandfather, too, met with a similar fate, and was quite similar to the character in this film. He was also independent, and never wanted to disturb others even when he was very ill. The title of this film is inspired from the character 'Irumal Thathaa' in Balu sir's yesteryear movie Ethir Neechal”.

Lakshmanan Rajagopal plays the lead role in the film. The director and actor know each other well since they worked together in ‘Radiopetti’ where Siva served as co-writer. Nivas Adithan was also a common member in both the projects. The director also shared that Balachander sir is his biggest inspiration.
