Sundar C's Magnum Opus 'Sangamithra' Launched At Cannes

Tamil cinema is making a major splash at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The first look poster of an upcoming trilingual historic drama ‘Sanghamitra’ was launched by the makers of the film at the ongoing festival. Starring Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi and Arya, the Sundar C directorial is a 250 cr project, which is expected to release by the end of 2018.

The mega budget Tamil period drama is a story of valour, treachery and love. Sundar’s highly ambitious project has been in the works for almost three years. The movie was announced here by Thendanal Studios Ltd, which is a Chennai-based filmed entertainment outfit that co-hosted the Cannes Film Market's opening night party. The magnum opus will be made in two parts.

Sundar revealed that the movie will be set in the eighth century. “Sanghamitra will be grandly entertaining”, the filmmaker stated on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, adding, “This is the film that I have always been aspiring to make. I've had the Sanghamitra idea with me for a decade now. I was waiting for the right kind of budget and the necessary technology to come my way. The time is now ripe. I wanted to be sure that I'd be able to do full justice to the magnitude of the tale before embarking upon making it”.

“Although 'Sanghamitra' will be a purely Indian film without a trace of any western influences, we are looking for an international audience”, the director added. Sundar has brought the best possible technical team on board for the flick. We hope his efforts bear fruit.
