Tovino Thomas To Play Baddie In Maari 2

We are already aware that director Balaji Mohan is prepping up for Maari 2, which is the sequel to 2015 film Maari. The gangster film had Dhanush essaying the role of an arrogant, city gangster. And now joining Dhanush is Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas .

Yes, Tovino has been approached by the director to play the role of an antagonist in the sequel. The director confirmed the same by posting on his Twitter page. He wrote, “First #Maari2 update! #Maari has a new nemesis. Happy to have @ttovino #TovinoThomas on board! One of the most fav characters I’ve written.”

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Balaji said, “When I began writing the script of Maari 2, I started off by etching the antagonist’s character. Since Maari (played by Dhanush) has a strong characterisation, I worked on the villain’s role and then moved on to the plot.” Talking about why he decided to rope in Tovino for a villain’s role, Mohan said, “It’s a unique villain character that needed someone who is also a lead actor to pull it off. Tovino is an intense actor who can transform into roles. When we narrated the story, he was excited by the character and agreed to come on board.” The film will go on floors in November.
