When it comes to raising voice against sexual violence and harassment on women, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar never backs out and is always ready with an action plan. She recently made headlines for unflinchingly coming out and exposing the ugly truth of the casting couch in film industry. She is determined again to reach the public with an authentic voice against sexual violence on women.

She has something big to launch on International Women’s Day (March 8). During the time when exploitation and violence on women is at its peak, an action campaign would provide a fillip to stop the heinous acts. She will be launching a signature campaign called #Save Shakti on the same day. During an interview with the Deccan Chronicle, Varalaxmi says, “Of late, the kind of sexual harassment and violence that’s meted out to girls and women is very disturbing and depressing. The main aim of this initiative is to motivate women to stand up for themselves. The goal of the campaign is to sign petitions and urge the state government to increase the number of Fast Track and Mahila Courts in every taluk and magistrate level, which are handling these cases.”

Putting forth her perspective, the actress added, “We also insist that a stipulated time should be fixed for the verdict in any type of case, say maximum within six months. The cases cannot go on endlessly and we want to save those victims or their kin from going through the trauma for a prolonged period.” However, the motive of this campaign is to spread awareness and push women to take a stand for themselves.
