    Veteran director Mani Ratnam takes legal action against Mannan


    Earlier it was distributor Mannan who took the first step to complain against filmmaker Mani Ratnam to police commissioner, demanding repayment from the director forKadal’s distribution loss. Now it’s Mani’s turn to bounce back and take legal step against the distributors for false allegations against him.

    Abudu Kumar, Mani Ratnam’s advocate, said, "We have sued Mannan for the defamatory remarks and case he has made against Mani Ratnam. We have filed a suit claiming five crore rupees for the damages that he has caused to the director's reputation. A restraining order was also passed by the Madras High Court and notice has been issued restraining Mannan from entering Mani Ratnam's office or residence."

    When asked about a producer’s share in the loss of a distributor, the lawyer replied, "Mani Ratnam has sold the worldwide rights of the film to another company during the first schedule of the film itself. Mani Ratnam or his company cannot be held for the distributor's loss." The film was distributed by Gemini Film Circuit and Thirupathi Brothers.
