Vishal’s Call for Strike Seems Losing Effect

Vishal’s Call for Strike Seems Losing Effect

A couple of week ago, TFPC president Vishal called for a strike against piracy and hike in ticket rates from May 30. He also announced that there will be no show from the aforesaid date if the state and central government will not take any action in response to their demands. Initially, theatre owners and filmmakers abided by the call, however, now it feels like Vishal’s call is losing its effect.

Due to Vishal’s announcement, few films rescheduled their release dates for the end of June like Jayam Ravi’s ‘Vanamagan’. Others deferred their release dates due to ‘Baahubali 2’ still occupying the theatre screens. But now, producers are planning to go ahead with the release like Jiiva’s ‘Sangili Bungili Kadhave Thora’ and Ganesh’s ‘Inayathalam’ on May 19. Samuthirakani’s ‘Thondan’ and Radha Mohan’s ‘Brindhavanam’ might also hit the silver screens on May 26.

A multiplex owner revealed the reason of overlooking the call. He said, “It is not advisable to shut down theatres as summer holidays have begun and it will only result in revenue losses. We are going ahead with the releases and we will run them after May 30 too.” Meanwhile, some members of TFPC met with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edapadi K. Palanisami, on May 12 and submitted a memorandum requesting to curb piracy.
