Set in the backdrop of Hyderabad, Anaamika is directed by Sekhar Kammula and stars Nayantara, Pasupathy, Vaibhav Reddy, Harshvardhan Rane and Thambi Ramaiah in lead roles. The film’s first look was unveiled on January 30 and since then the director has been defending his decision to portray Nayantara as a normal woman unlike Vidya Balan’s character in Kahaani who was pregnant.
Kammula said, "I didn't want it to be a factor to create sympathy for the lead character and I must specify that Nayanthara has done an exceptionally good job in her role. In fact, we were all stunned by her professionalism and there were action scenes where she insisted that she would perform without any body doubles.” The music for the film has been scored by M.M. Keeravaani. The film revolves around an NRI woman, Anaamika Shastri, who reaches Hyderabad in search of her missing husband.
