Baahubali slapped with a legal notice

Touted to be one the most expensive films created down South, Baahubali has managed to get entangled in a legal trouble. Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus has received a legal notice from Karnataka-based Jain Mutt, who has issues with the title of the film. He states that Baahubali is worshipped as Gomateshwara, a god in Jain pantheon, tracing the origin back to 10th century.

Nagashree, an advocate has said, “Lord Gomateshwara is worshipped as a beacon of peace and sacrifice. But the trailers of Baahubali have been very violent and showcase the character sporting swords, fighting and making many aggressive gestures which fly against the tenets of the religion. As a peace loving community, the film's trailers have hurt the sentiments of the community, which fears the story of Gomateshwara is being portrayed in a bad light.”

The advocate has further stated that if the story of the flick is based on Lord Gomateshwara then the community wishes to stop the filmmakers from doing so. In this context, Shobu Yarlagadda, producer of the film said, “The film is based on a fictional story and is not inspired by any text, religious or otherwise. I haven't yet received the legal notice, so cannot comment on it as of now. But I would like to assure you that our film is not against any community or religion.”
