Devi Sri Prasad To Launch A Song In Memory of His Guru Mandolin Srinivas

Music director Devi Sri Prasad will pay homage to his guru Mandolin Srinivas by launching a song called Gurave Namaha — a tribute to Mandolin Srinivas. The rare talent, who passed away in 2014, was South cinema’s royalty. The song has been composed by DSP and the lyrics are written by Jonnavithula in Sanskrit.

Devi Sri Prasad says, “The Greatness of a Guru cannot be expressed in words. So, I tried to express it through music.”  He added, “Each of the seven notes explains the divine quality of my guru. I wanted this song to be in Sanskrit to make it more musical and universal, so I approached Jonnavithula garu and he wrote beautiful lyrics.”

The original song was composed in Keeravani Raaga, which was among master’s favourites. The song will comprise rare footages of Mandolin Srinivas. DSP is also thinking of organising a tribute concert for Mandolin, which will be titled as The Great Mandolin and will feature musicians like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Sivamani, Mandolin U Rajesh and others.
