    South Industry To Stop Releasing Films From March 1

    Latest news reveals that the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has taken a decision not to release any films from  March 1 in the two Telugu speaking state theatres. As a protest against the unreasonable prices being charged by digital service providers, this has come up. Also, after Tollywood industry, even Malayalam and Kannada industries have given their consent for the strike.



    However, the final decision is awaited as the representatives of the four states will be meeting for the discussion on February 7. Moreover, talking on the issue TFPC president and actor Vishal said, “Work to source alternative arrangements to these DSPs —such as setting up our own digital distribution infrastructure — is going on. A few companies are ready to offer services at a lower cost.  Lower fees will only benefit small film producers. As of now, the distribution companies are not being fair”.



    Further. It has been learned that there are approximately 1,200 screens in Tamil Nadu, which charges Rs10,000 per week per theatre. Meanwhile, some of the Tamil movies like Vijay Antony’s Kaali,Vishal’s Irumbu Thirai, Vikranth- Mysshkin-Suseendharn’s Suttu Pidikka Uttharavu, Gautham’s Ennai Nokki Paayum Thotta etc have been set to release in March and it is to be seen if these movies get across the border before the strike.
