Violation of norms by Southern filmstars leads to ban of movies

A bad phase is going to rock the Malayalam film industry as the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has decided to go harsh on them in the recent future. They have announced to boycott movies which feature such actors who have breached a contract by taking part in television shows. Leading artist Rima Kallingal is one of the affected personalities. Since Wednesday, it was heard that Rima has been banned by the Film Chamber, for not responding positively to their request to stop hosting a television show. However to some relief, Anil Thomas, secretary of the film chamber, ensured that they have not imposed a ban on the actors as of now.

He added some valuable information on the issue, "Every actor signs a contract with the producer when they do a film, where it is specified that they will not appear in any major television show. But artistes such as Rima, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saikumar and Kaniha, have violated the contract by appearing on television shows. We had sent them notices in January this year asking them not to take part in TV shows. However, they have not responded to the notice.”

According to the respected secretary of the organisation, a meeting was held in August 2012 to discuss the issue, "The artistes wanted amendments in the contract as it was formed in 2002 and the situation has changed now. So we decided that the status quo will be maintained until we formed a committee to discuss the amendments. This is why no notice was sent to Shwetha Menon when she hosted a TV show. But now we have decided to boycott films of artistes. We won't allow the production and distribution of their films.”

Meanwhile, Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) was also issued a letter stating that no significant response has been provided yet from their side too. But according to Anil Thomas, AMMA has also been violating the contract by supporting the artistes. Meanwhile, AMMA secretary Edavela Babu denied receiving any kind of communication from the film chamber in relation to this issue, "We have no issues with artistes appearing on television; we don't believe that is the reason for poor box office collections. These contracts were formed a long time ago and have no validity now.”
