Bad news for Keechaka director NVB Chowdary as the women’s rights organisations have raised issues regarding the recently released trailer. The activists have threatened to stall its screening if the scenes of graphic violence are not removed. Vijaya Reddy, president of She Help Foundation, stated, “We have nothing against the film or the director. Our problem is with the 126-second trailer of the film which was released on YouTube recently. It showcases women being beaten up, burnt with cigarette stubs and sexually abused in horrendous fashion”.

The president of Protection for Human Rights Association, A Ramya Kumari expressed, “They have even shown minors being sexually abused in the trailer, which is disturbing. It seems the directors are trying to make money out of showing women in a vulgar way and this must be stopped”. She blamed the censor board saying, “I don’t understand how the censor board has cleared such scenes. Most filmmakers showcase women in a demeaning and vulgar way but get away with an A-certificate. As per the Censor Board guidelines, they have the right to completely remove such scenes”.

In response to this allegation, a member of the censor board, Jeevitha Rajasekhar stated, “We have not cleared any trailer from this movie. Unfortunately a lot of producers are releasing trailers on YouTube and on TV channels without the consent of the Censor Board and this is causing us great embarrassment. We cannot control what people share on social media and it is the people who have to take up the responsibility and put a stop to this”.
