He started his career with K. Balachander's Kalyana Agadhigal in 1985. He rose to prominence with <a class="dm-links" href="/celebrities/tamil/mani-ratnam/" target="_blank">Mani Ratnam</a>'s Nayagan in 1987. Nassar, one of the best character artists in India, made his directorial debut with Avatharam in 1995. Balancing his career predominantly in the Tamil and the Telugu film industries, the character artiste's appearances in Hindi cinema has earned him considerable reputation. His son Faizal is to make his cinematic debut with the A L Vijay directorial Saivam.
