I'm Not Done Yet review: Kapil Sharma shares his story of rise, fall & rising back up with the Netflix Special
    Updated : January 28, 2022 02:30 PM IST

Kapil Sharma is that funny man who has been spreading smiles and joys for over decades now. The comedian and actor had become a household name after winning the Laughter Challenge and has been coming up with his own show since then. The audience had seen him sky-rocketing into success, becoming a household name and one of the highest-paid stars of TV, to rising again from his ashes. Now, with his Netflix Special , I'm Not Done Yet, he gives an account of his journey in his own style.

The show seems to have his friends and his family as the live audience, the ones who have witnessed his journey up close. He addresses important events, controversies from his life, and even opens up about the depression he battled. He narrates the story as a conversation that he has had with his therapist when he realised he has depression, but often sways away from that.

Kapil Sharma might call himself a standup comedian, but this one most definitely lacks the finesse that you'll find in Specials of Vir Das or Zakir Khan when they narrate incidents from their lives. While the ones by Vir Das or Zakir Khan land, and hit you hard, many of Kapil's fall flat. It does make the Special bland at times, but does it not land at all? Not at all!

Some parts of I'm Not Done Yet are really funny, while the others will actually move you and make you emotional. This one is not just meant for the regular fans of the comedian, but also those who probably don't watch his show religiously. Some incidents are hard-hitting, and it is evident that Sharma is putting more heart into it than following a flow, or a format. And some jokes will evoke a very steady laugh- as does the incident of his drunken tweet, or the one on poha.

The biggest flaw, more than some jokes not landing, is how unstructured the entire Special becomes. There's a lot of going here and there, which mars the overall impact that it should have had. In fact, that's also the reason why the finesse that a standup special requires is missing.

All in all, the Netflix Special will definitely be liked by someone who is a fan or one who finds Kapil Sharma's journey inspiring. However, if you're a hardcore fan of Standup comedy, you will find this funny in parts but below par mostly. Yes, Kapil Sharma, you are definitely not done yet!
