The season three finale is here and it is great, The Boys has managed to consistently deliver a solid and engaging plot.

With clever and fun writing and the finale of season 3 is no different, Eric Kripke and his team not only managed to subvert expectations but also cleverly set up the next season.

Tilted " The Instant White-Hot Wild" and directed by Sarah Boyd, the episode starts with Bucher and Hughie learning that Soilderboy is Homelander's father.

Butcher decides to leave Hughie behind in order to protect him from the fight as well as to stop him from taking the temporary compound V.

The episode very cleverly managed to hide the eventual twist, while many fans theorized that Homelander and Soilderboy would team up against Butcher the opposite happens.

Jensen Ackles gives a great performance and manages to give a layer of humanity to Soilderboy, especially when recounting his past.

Anthony Starr as Homelander gives a fantastic performance as the unstable superhero.

Homelander deals with the revelation that he has a father by reaching out to his son Ryan and highlighting the character's vulnerability and need for love.

While we have seen this side of the character before it has a different impact now.

Hughie reunites with Starlight and learns the errors of his ways and rejoins The Boys, who have managed to add a newly escaped Maeve into their ranks.

During the final battle, Homelander tries to convince Soilderboy to join him by introducing him to his grandson, However, this doesn't sway him.

This moment was set up perfectly for the twist, as though the episode it was constantly hinted that Soilderboy would betray Butcher and The Boys but in the end, the opposite happens.

The fight has a lot of tense moments and ends with Soilderboy being put back into a coma, Ryan chose to stay with Homelander, and The Boys adding Starlight into their ranks.

So this entire season has been an exhilarating ride from the first episode to the last and is a must-watch if you are a fan of the genre or so one who is looking to see something completely different from mainstream superhero movies and shows.

The Boys is currently streaming on Prime Video.
