    Colin Farrell set to star in The Batman spinoff for HBO Max

    The upcoming Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson is set to have a spinoff series for HBO Max and one which will be based around one of Batman's iconic villains the Penguin. Actor Colin Farrell has been confirmed to reprise his role for the series which will be a prequel set before the events of the movie. The show has been described as a crime drama similar to the classic gangster movie Scarface and will show how the Penguin came to power in Gotham and the events that lead up to his eventual run-in with Batman.

    The Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot is one of Gotham City's most powerful and notorious crime lords dealing mostly in weapon smuggling. The illegitimate child of one of Gothom cities richest men Cobblepot turned to crime to get revenge from his father for abandoning his mother and him. Since the show is a prequel to the upcoming Batman movie we can expect appearances from other cast members as well, the show will be helmed by Matt Reeves and Dyan Clark.

    This will be the fourth live-action appearance of the Penguin, the most iconic being Danny Devito in the 1992 movie Batman Returns and the most recent being Robin Lord Taylor in the hit TV series Gotham. Along with the Penguin, Warner Bros. has greenlit another show which follows Commissioner Gordon and the Gotham City police department. These announcements show the level of confidence the studio has on the upcoming Batman movie.

    The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader along with Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and Zoe Kravitz, the movie is set to premier on the the 4th of March in 2022.
