One of the most well-received shows this year has been HBO Max 's Game of Thrones prequel The House of the Dragon, which reignited the franchise fandom as well bring in new fans.

The series had its finale last week and received praise from both critics and fans. The first season explored the origins of the civil war within house Tageryn that started after Queen Alicent schemed to put Aegon, her son, on the Iron Throne, usurping Rhaenyra who is the rightful heir.

One of the most crucial scenes in the finale was Rhaenyra's reaction to the death of her young son Lucerys, who was sent to meet with potential allies in the upcoming war and was killed by his cousin.

Rhaenyra who was already dealing with the death of her father and the loss of a child was tragically stillborn, this led to her having a chilling reaction to this latest tragedy.

In a recent interview with The Face, D'Arcy spoke about the scene and also revealed a new bit of insight into its origin and how it will fuel Rhaenyra in the next season.

"I totally think so. I have to say, just because I just think it’s [a mark] of genius: it was Matt Smith who suggested that Rhaenyra received the news on the walk away from camera. As soon as he said that when we were doing an onset rehearsal, I suddenly could see it. But that really sincere attempt towards maturity, complexity and holding all of these moving parts together – her attempt to be the glue just falls away. There is nothing left to bridge those many factions anymore."

Throughout the season finale, Rhaenyra kept a level head and did not want to have unnecessary bloodshed on her behalf despite the insistence of her council and her husband.

However, since the murder of her son and from what D'Arcy said in the interview, it is clear that Rhaneyra will take revenge against those who harmed her family.

The series has already been greenlit for a second season with d Ryan Condal and Alan Taylor, serving as showrunners, the second season is expected to stream sometime in 2024.

The first season of The House of the Dragon is currently streaming on Dinsey+.
