Shefali Shah starrer Delhi Crime season 2 in trouble as Netflix India looking at a more commercial programming?

The sequel of Netflix India ’s International Emmy winning show Delhi Crime might be in trouble as the OTT platform looks to restructure its programming for Indian originals. The web series based on the Nirbhaya Case directed by Richie Mehta and starring Shefali Shah was widely applauded by both critics and audiences and quickly renewed for a second season.

However, Delhi Crime 2 has mammoth task of living up to the original's standards which are all too high and according to recent reports the executives at Netflix aren’t happy with how the new season has turned out and reshoots have been ordered. The original series director Richie Mehta didn’t return for season 2.

What is happening with Delhi Crime 2 is no new story, this is exactly how things went down for the much hyped prequel of Baahubali. The series after being shot was scrapped and reshoots were ordered, displeased with which Netflix decided to drop the project.

While no shows have been shelved yet, including Delhi Crime 2, Netflix is reportedly to focus on a more commercial programming with regards to original content in India.

Netflix has been facing a downfall in its subscriber base globally this year. The streamer now hopes to strengthen its base in India with more commercial programs in addition to the already running originals.

Actress Shefali Shah who led Delhi Crime season 1 had shared with Desimartini earlier this year that she had already shot for Delhi Crime season 2 in the National Capital. “Well, if you get to know, let me know,” Shefali said when we asked her for an update on the new season. “However, she continued to say, “But well, we are hoping that sometime soon they’ll announce it or.. I’m actually waiting for it as much as the audiences. I’m waiting for Vartika to come back,” she had added.
