Sushmita Sen has Kajol to thank for bagging her digital debut Aarya; latter opens up about the web series

Fans have been loving and appreciating Sushmita Sen 's badass avatar in the web series Aarya . The project which is already down two seasons and has a third one underway marked her comeback to acting after several years. While it is hard to imagine any other actress pulling off what Sushmita has done in Aarya, the actress does owe a humble thank you to actresses who were offered the role before her and decided to give a pass.

Kajol , in fact, was the first choice of the makers to lead Aarya instead of Sushmita and she's even spoken about being unable to take up the series when it was offered to her. Kajol confirmed that she was offered the web series in a recent interview and stated that due to some personal reasons she couldn't say yes to the role.

Kajol wasn't the only one who was offered the role, in fact, actress Raveena Tandon was also apparently approached for the web series before Sushmita landed the part. Kajol told Hindustan Times that while she loved the script other reasons kept her from taking it up.

With two seasons already released, Aarya which first premiered on Disney + Hotstar in 2020 was nominated at the International Emmys in 2021 in the 'Best Drama Series' category. Sushmita has been highly appreciated for her performance in the thriller series and will return for a third season which reportedly goes on floors in December.

Passing up Aarya wasn't the brightest of ideas but Kajol certainly has an opportunity to make up for it as she prepares to make a web series debut of her own in another Disney+ Hotstar series which will be helmed by The Family Man 2 writer and director Suparn Verma. The actress has previously marked her debut on OTT with Renuka Shahane's film Tribhanga.
