Shark Tank India: When Anupam Mittal called a pitcher 'Piyakkad'

The reality show Shark Tank India has witnessed several innovative businesses which grabbed the major attention of the judges' panel comprising seven successful entrepreneurs. While few of the start-up ideas and pitchers were appreciated by the potential investors, some of them were ridiculed. Interestingly, a pitcher was also called ‘piyakkad’(drunkard) in one of the episodes of the popular show.

It happened during a pitch of a crafted canned cocktails startup, In A Can, founded by Sameer and Viraj. Lenskart cofounder Peyush Bansal opened the discussion by asking them about their background. Viraj then began sharing his journey that he has done hotel management and wine was his passion. He continued that he went to London to study wines and worked for six years in the industry and later came to India and again started working in the wine industry.

Besides ridiculing, the judges’ panel has also heaped praises on the pitchers on the show. In one of the episodes, Ashneer, who people find hard to impress, was clean-bowled by Raghav Himatsingka, co-founder of Raising Superstars, and called him ‘ Khiladi ’(seasoned player).

Meanwhile, Shark Tank India, an Indian version of Shark Tank US, began airing on Sony Television in December last year and concluded its first season in February this year. The show became popular among audiences of all age groups. Besides Peyush, Ashneer, and Anupam, other successful entrepreneurs Namita Thapar (Emcure Pharmaceuticals), Vineeta Singh(Sugar cosmetics), Aman Gupta( boAt founder), and Ghazal Alagh (Mamaearth) became part of the judges’ panel on the popular show.
