'She was always cautious' : Vaibhavi Upadhyaya's fiance and brother dismiss rumors of her not wearing a seat belt

Actress Vaibhavi Upadhyaya’s tragic demise in a car accident in Himachal Pradesh has shocked the entire entertainment industry as well as her fans. She was engaged to businessman Jay Gandhi who was also with her inside the car during the time of the fateful incident. He survived along with a few injuries but is inevitably in trauma after the incident. However, Vaibhavi’s fiance and her brother Ankit Upadhyaya have now dismissed the rumors that have been doing the rounds that she was not wearing a seat belt before the accident.

Talking to Etimes, Vaibhavi Upadhyaya’s fiance said, “There is a notion that you speed on road trips, but that was not the case. Our car was standing still and waiting for the truck to pass. I am not in a state to talk much, but I wanted to ensure that people don’t assume that we were not wearing seat belts or were speeding.”

The Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai actress’ brother Ankit also spoke to the same publication and said that Vaibhavi and her fiance were fond of road trips and they had planned one from Mumbai to Kullu. The couple had begun their road trip on May 15 but met with a tragic accident in Banjar, Himachal Pradesh. Talking about the incident, the late actress’ brother said, “It was a narrow lane and there were heavy vehicles going up and down. They saw a huge dumper truck coming and stopped their car, waiting for it to pass. The truck took a turn, but the rear end hit the car, which slipped into the valley. Due to the impact, Vaibhavi was thrown out of the car. By the time the locals took Vaibhavi to the hospital, it was too late.”

However, the Kya Qasoor Hai Amala Ka actress’ brother stressed that his sister was wearing a seat belt. He said that Vaibhavi Upadhyaya was always cautious and would never sit inside a car without wearing a seat belt. He went on to say, “She was always cautious and would never sit in a car without a seat belt. So, on a road trip, she would be extra cautious. The doctors also confirmed how there were seat belt marks around her neck. It is sad that we were thinking of planning her marriage but now she is gone.”

Vaibhavi Upadhyaya was known for her comic act as Jasmine in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. She was engaged to Jay Gandhi on February 14 this year. They were reportedly planning to tie the knot by the end of this year.
