The Kapil Sharma Show is undoubtedly one of the most-watched shows on Indian TV. In fact, Kapil Sharma is also one of the highest taxpayers in the TV industry and the show always grabs headlines. If there is any promotion for a film or a web series or anything, celebs choose to make an appearance on this show since this reaches every household. Needless to say, the makers must exercise some restraint when it comes to the content that would be aired. And therefore, when a clip from the episode where singers Salim- Sulaiman, Sunidhi Chauhan and Harshdeep Kaur were present as guests was shared, we were shocked.

The reason for this shock was the kind of racist jokes that were passed off as comedy. There is a segment in the show where host Kapil Sharma reads out social media comments. For Sulaiman, he chose a picture of the musician with cricketer Chris Gayle. But the kind of comments highlighted were simply distasteful. One of the comments translates to 'Sulaiman sir, one can recognise you but did a bomb explode on Salim's face'? When someone clarified that it's Chris Gayle- 'yeh acche acche bowlers ko dho daalte hai', the reply was 'toh khud ka muh kyu nahi dhota' referring to his darker complexion. This also generated a peal of good laughter from Sulaiman and Salim, who even clapped, and from Sunidhi Chauhan.

Racist comments on Sulaiman's picture with Chris Gayle

It did not end there. The comments were all a dig at the cricketer's complexion. Another comment read how Chris Gayle must be living near the beach, which is why he has a permanent tan! Here is the full video:

While it might seem harmless, jokes like this point out our deep-rooted racism. Before this, Krushna Abhishek's Comedy Nights Bachao courted controversy when he called actress Tannishtha Chatterjee 'kaali kalooti' and asked her if she ate a lot of jamun as a child. She chose to walk out of the show! What is your opinion on this?
