“In an overwhelming 'Rajini' experience, you sadly get an underwhelming script! ”

For me #Kabali is a non-linear interpretation of Manirathnam's #Nayagan sans the prison, predictable wife episode and the open-ended climax. It's not boring and also not engaging as Kabali's rise is not well conceived into a cohesive whole.

Give it to the dragged storytelling or multiple flashbacks that could spin a fine yarn of a story. Moreover, the story is written around few scenes and not the other way around. So, no matter how hard you try to emote with the characters, you still stay in a remote zone. Santosh Narayanan underscores the narrative with his thumping BG score, but he couldn't create magic in scenes that are devoid of logic.

The film is faithful to its genre and director Ranjith plants few highpoints that stand out. If you are fan of #Thalaiva #Rajni and his archetypal swag, you got plenty of it. Or else, it's just a been-there-done-that effort that bleeds of banalities in every possible way!

It's high time we stop revisiting the same 'Gangster' template by shifting the action to a different location. And remember, too much hype can kill a golden goose!
