Once in a while, there comes a movie that will leave a lasting impression in our minds. Earlier in the year, we had Kaaka Muttai and now its Kuttram Kadithal. Both the films have one thing in common, that is children. No wonder they say that the children are the building blocks of our nation. Its the responsibility of the society, parents and the teachers to feed them with the right things at the right time. Kuttram Kadithal revolves around a teacher and a student.

To impart discipline in the students, the teachers act impulsively and physically punish them. Lot of the schools I personally know resort to such a treatment. There are dark rooms, extra classes on weekends and other crappy methods to educate the children. The same happens in Kuttram Kadithal and how the guilty consciousness of the teacher drives her life is neatly portrayed by the director.

Its indeed a talent to pick a message oriented subject and to be not preachy. At the same time, emotionally connect the audience, who come out of the theatre with thoughts that can change their lives, forever. Of course, there were some "not so required" scenes in the 2nd half, that dampens the flow a bit. But, director Brahma showed immense clarity and his attention to detail was brilliant. There is this award winning feeling in every aspect. Cinematography and editing were brilliant. Music was simply soul stirring. The violin bits in the 2nd half makes you get under the skin of the scene. Kannathil Muthamital song is just an icing on the cake.

Radhika as Merlin was just outstanding. Her emotions were very natural. She pulled off the role of a guilty teacher with ease. Sai as Manikandan supported her with equally competing performance. The child actor who played Chelliyan came up with a breezy and cheerful performance. Kuttram Kadithal is a must watch film for parents and teachers of this generation who give more importance to ranks, education, discipline and forget that the child's life is even more important that all these.
