This is supposed to be a true story and so, let us not question the plausibility of the plot. Does it even make for some interesting viewing? Hardly. Films in the making for a long time end up looking dated. In this case, it is an understatement.nnThe film happens in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu that borders the state of Kerala. And the main livelihood here seems to be inter-state smuggling. So people are either jobless or are smugglers. Sundaram is a good hearted small time con man who is looking for a government job, more specifically a teacher's job. Lourdes Mary is the daughter of the most dreaded smuggler, Siluvai, who dares to fall in love with Sundaram. Sundaram wants to eke out an honest living but circumstances force him take the smuggling. Helped by Salai, another smuggler, he becomes successful. Then there is Ambrose, a cop seeking revenge against Siluvai and some men inside Siluvai's camp who hate Sundaram. These guys ensure that the there is no happy ending (True stories don't have a happy ending, by the way!)nnEverything about the film is dated - its setting, screenplay, performances, music.... The director (Vadivudaiyan) does not make any effort to infuse even a little novelty into the narration. Bad songs worsen it further. Performances are uniformly over the top. Karan as Sundaram overdoes his role, as usual. Anjali, as his love interest, shrieks in the name of acting. Saravanan is not one bit as endearing as his character is supposed to be. All the bad guys behave like psychos. Ganja Karuppu's comedy is plain irritating. In fact, publicizing Vidyasagar and Vairamuthu as a formidable combo is the actual joke. And, probably, no technician was paid well and they all consistently do a bad job. nnSo, it is no big surprise that this film was much delayed and finally, on completion, found no takers. Thankfully, there is Tin Tin to watch this weekend!
