    Verdict - Trash it

Alex PandianWatch trailerRelease date : January 11, 2013

Karthi seems to have jumped on the commercial bandwagon hoping to evolve successful in spite of failing miserably last time in “Saguni”. What he presents to the audience in his latest outing “Alex Pandian” is proof to the absence of creativity and logic in Tamil film industry. Despite being highly commercial in its presentation, the film struggles to evoke interest.

Alex Pandian aka Karthi earns a livelihood by doing odd jobs for money. He's handed over the responsibility of kidnapping the Chief Minister's daughter, played by Anushka, who will be used as a bait to get her father sanction a deal that was originally declared unfit. Alex successfully kidnaps Anushka and puts her in a house in the middle of a forest, far away from anybody's sight, but during the stay in the forest, Anushka falls head over heels for Karthi.

Just when Anushka is about to be handed over to Milind Soman, the antagonist, she reveals the motive of her kidnapping that if the deal is sanctioned then many innocent lives will be destroyed. Alex decides to double cross Milind and hand over Anushka to her father, but things don't go as planned. Both are captured and the CM is given an ultimatum. Will Alex Pandian allow the baddies to make the CM sanction the deal or not forms the rest of the story?

Thanks to Santhanam the first half of the film has plenty of laughable moments but sadly after a point of time even these scenes become clichxe9d. The story could've been presented without going roundabout to take us through flashback which is only time consuming. The presence of three heroines who play sisters to Santhanam has no value except they add some more glamour with some skin show and pave way to some sick double meaning dialogues.

The first half is manageable to sit through but the pain aggravates in the second half when the kidnapping plot is revealed. The romance between Karthi and Anushka seem artificial while the villains have any part to play than chasing from the first minute.

Karthi does decent job in his role while Santhanam brings the house down with his one-liners, but other actors such as Suman, Milind Soman and Anushka fall like a deck of cards. Direction is aimless and screenplay and dialogues hardly leave any impact on the audience.

Music by DSP, who is known to churn mass-appealing numbers, is disappointing. Not even one song manages to linger on in the minds of the audiences as they walk out of the theatre.

“Alex Pandian”, which was made a commercial pot-boiler, is an effort not worth discussing at all.
