    Verdict - Boring Drama

Amma KanakkuWatch trailerRelease date : June 24, 2016

Amma Kanakku is nothing but a bore-fest. From start to end, you can't invest with the characters and the whole film only gives an experience of watching badly executed Hindi serials. Thanks to mom and sister at home, I had the privilege to watch some episodes of those lousy daily soaps during my childhood.

I didn't see Amma Kanakku's original Hindi version, Nil Battey Sannataa but my friends raved about the movie and even reviews were unanimously positive. But for me, Amma Kannakku didn't impress much as everything associated with the film is artificial including the great Ilaiyaraaja's music.

There is a scene where a nerdy genius student explains about mathematics and it inspires both the lazy student Abhinaya (played by Yuvasri) and her mom (Amala Paul) but we couldn't feel the magic, the scene just falls flat. When all the characters speak great philosophies, we do not connect with them as they are not real.

It looks like, the film's director Ashiwin Iyer doesn't even know basic nativity factor of Tamil people that the whole film is a plodding drama with heavy dose of Hindi culture and artificial dialogues.

The bottom line is -watch Amma Kanakku, if you are a fan of Hindi dubbing serials.

Amma Kanakku is a well calculated drama with a subtle and neatly handled dose of feminism.
