Verdict - This one will make your vision go Kaala once it ends ! The most dud Rajinikant movie till date !
Director PA Ranjith has created history. At 2 hour 38 odd minutes this one is the most boring Rajnikant film ever made. That you might want to sit through is only because of the charisma that Rajinikant brings to the table and frankly after a point even that becomes very difficult.
The director appears totally confused between making a realistic slum based film or making a typical savior of the poor film for Rajnikant. His confusion has spilled over into characters also Nana Patekar opens as a cold assured villain and in a police station scene he again starts ranting which will remind you of his yashwant/krantiveer etc days when a nana movie meant nonstop frustrated bhashans.
This is the most wasted role of huma qureshi after the horror movie called dobara ,at least in that one Huma had the most important role.
The movie has few fight scenes and Rajinikant makes them look convincing.
The biggest error that the director has made is the fact that he got Nana as the villain and the concept of black vs white where black is good and white is evil. The movie could have epic clash scenes between Nana and Rajini and the movie delivers a rotten stinking half boiled egg when you expect to sniff into a bowl of piping hot egg burji.
The movie also fluctuates between being a social arty statement with some rappers of the slum coming over and singing rap style in situations. The rappers make a joke of themselves when the come over rapping even when kaala has lost his son and wife – that creativity just falls on its face.
Go watch Basha or Padayappa if you are in the mood to watch a Rajinikant classic. This one is Rajinikant’s Mrityudata.
