It is a big film - a multi starrer with big stars with a heist as its central plot. It is Ajith's 50th film with Venkat Prabhu as director. And that Ajiths role has negative shades was well publicized. So, all the hype around the film is justified. Now, does the film live up to all the hype? It sure, does. Is it a classic? Definitely, no. Nevertheless, entertaining.

Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith), a suspended police officer befriends a Mumbai gangster, Arumuga Chettiar (Jayaprakash), by wooing his daughter, Sanjana(Trisha). Reason? The gangster pulls a few strings to become the conduit for 500 crore rupees meant for betting in the IPL match and Vinayak eyes it. There is another gang - a sub-inspector, a pub owner, a hacker and an employee of the gangster - that wants to loot the money as well. Vinayak teams up with them and carries out the robbery. But Vinayak has other plans. Then, there is a cop, Prithviraj (Arjun) with his team of police officers, who chases them and spoils their fun.

The first half is a little slow, Venkat Prabhu takes some time to educate the audience on the betting process and introduce the characters. So, the plot picks up pace up only after all this establishment process. From then on, it is a fairly entertaining ride. If you expect a more intelligent second half you likely to be a little disappointed because all you see is mindless action at typically filmy action locations - a dilapidated building, narrow by-lanes, a highway motel, etc. But the climax doesn't disappoint.

It is Ajith's show completely. The crowd erupts as he mouths his one-liners (some are muted by censors). He displays suaveness and menace quite well. His salt and pepper look, a la George Clooney, which is supposed to make him look stylish actually makes him look older (he is supposed to be 40), partly because he doesn't look fit. His loud laughter and dialogue delivery in the second half makes one doubt his sanity. His drunken dialogue with Premgi in the car and his solo plotting using a chess board epitomize tedium.
Arjun fits the role of a cop well. Premgi plays a clown once again while the others in the gang (Vaibhav, Mahath Raghavendra and Ashwin Kakumanu) lend able support. This being a boys film, the girls dont have much to do. Trisha is likeable while others (Andrea, Lakshmi Rai and Anjali) hardly make an impact. Jayaprakash and Subbu Panchu are ok.

The background score complements the really film well but the songs, though are not bad, can be done away with. And the technical departments (cinematography, editing and stunts) contribute handsomely to make the film watchable.

Not a perfect film, but a decent entertainer for the long weekend.
